Frequently Asked Questions
Can I adjust the weight of my RUCK IT Ruck Pack?
Yes — the weight of your RUCK IT Ruck Pack is fully adjustable and completely up to you.
RUCK IT uses 5-pound adaptive filler packs, allowing you to fine-tune your load in precise 5-pound increments. This means you can ruck as light or as heavy as you want, anywhere from 5 pounds up to 60 pounds, depending on your goals, fitness level, and experience.
This modular system makes it easy to:
Start lighter if you’re new to rucking
Progress gradually and safely over time
Adjust your load for different workouts or terrain
You can also order additional 5-pound adaptive filler packs at any time, so your RUCK IT can grow with you as your strength, conditioning, and capacity improve.
In short:
You control the weight. You control the progression. RUCK IT adapts to you.
How do the adaptive filler packs work?
RUCK IT Adaptive Filler Packs are designed to give you precise, comfortable, and scalable weight control for your ruck training.
Each Adaptive Filler Pack weighs 5 pounds and is filled with shot pellets that contour naturally to your body. Unlike rigid plates, these packs mold to your back, reducing pressure points and improving overall comfort—especially during longer rucks.
The filler packs slide securely into the internal weight compartments of your RUCK IT Ruck Pack, allowing you to:
Adjust your total load in 5-pound increments
Evenly distribute weight for better balance and posture
Progress gradually as your strength and conditioning improve
Because rucking is about long-term consistency and joint-friendly training, this modular system lets you start light and build safely over time—without ever needing to replace your ruck.
You can add or remove filler packs at any time, and additional 5-pound Adaptive Filler Packs can be ordered whenever you’re ready to increase your load.
In short:
More comfort. More control. Smarter progression.
Will the RUCK IT fit my size?
Yes. The RUCK IT Mark II is designed to comfortably fit a wide range of body sizes and builds. It is suitably sized for individuals from 5'4" up to 6'4", with an adjustable fit that contours naturally to your torso for comfort, stability, and proper load distribution.
The Mark II was engineered to sit high and close to the body, helping reduce unnecessary strain on the shoulders, lower back, and hips—making it ideal for both beginners and experienced ruckers alike.
For taller athletes, we’re currently battle-testing the RUCK IT Mark III XL, which is being developed specifically for individuals 6'4" and taller. In addition to its extended frame for taller users, the RUCK IT Mark III will accommodate up to 70 pounds of adaptive filler packs, making it ideal for advanced ruckers who want to progressively load heavier while maintaining comfort and balance.
Our goal with every RUCK IT design is simple:
Proper fit
Comfort under load
Long-term durability
Performance that scales with you
If you have questions about sizing or load recommendations, feel free to reach out—we’re always happy to help you dial in the right setup for your goals.
Is rucking uncomfortable on the shoulders and traps?
Rucking can be uncomfortable with poorly designed packs—but that’s exactly what RUCK IT was built to solve.
RUCK IT Ruck Packs are engineered with an expanded upper shoulder and trap contact area that spreads the load over a wider surface, rather than concentrating pressure on a narrow point. This improved weight distribution significantly reduces hot spots and pressure, so the work stays where it belongs: your legs, heart, and lungs—not your traps and shoulders.
In addition, the shoulder straps are S-curved to follow the natural contour of your body. This design allows the pack to sit closer to your center of mass, reducing strain, improving stability, and increasing overall comfort—especially during longer rucks or heavier loads.
The result is a ruck pack that feels secure, balanced, and comfortable, allowing you to focus on movement, fitness, and performance instead of discomfort.
What are the benefits of rucking?
Rucking is one of the most effective, sustainable, and joint-friendly forms of full-body conditioning you can do — especially as you get older.
By simply walking with added weight, rucking delivers a powerful combination of strength training, cardiovascular conditioning, and metabolic benefits without the high impact of running.
Key benefits of rucking include:
Builds lean muscle & strength
The added load challenges your legs, glutes, core, back, shoulders, and posture muscles — helping you build and maintain lean muscle mass.Improves cardiovascular fitness
Rucking elevates heart rate into an effective aerobic zone, improving endurance and overall cardiorespiratory health.Burns more calories than walking
Carrying weight significantly increases energy expenditure, making rucking an efficient tool for fat loss and body recomposition.Low-impact & joint-friendly
Unlike running, rucking places far less stress on your knees, hips, and ankles, making it ideal for long-term consistency.Strengthens bones & connective tissue
The load-bearing nature of rucking supports bone density and helps maintain resilient joints and tendons.Improves posture & core stability
Properly loaded rucking reinforces upright posture and engages deep core muscles with every step.Highly scalable & adaptable
You can easily adjust weight, distance, and terrain — making rucking suitable for beginners through advanced athletes.Supports longevity & real-world fitness
Rucking mimics real-life movement patterns: carrying, walking, standing tall, and staying mobile — exactly what matters as you age.
In short, rucking is walking, upgraded — a simple, effective, and sustainable way to build strength, improve conditioning, and support long-term health.
That’s why RUCK IT Ruck Packs are designed to make rucking comfortable, adjustable, and something you can do for decades.
Is rucking for everyone?
Rucking is one of the most accessible and scalable forms of fitness there is — which means it can be adapted for almost everyone, regardless of age or fitness level.
Because rucking is simply walking with added weight, you control the intensity. You can start light, move at your own pace, and gradually progress as your strength, conditioning, and confidence improve. This makes rucking ideal for:
Beginners who want a simple, low-barrier way to get fitter
Men and women 50+ who want strength, cardio, and bone-density benefits without joint-pounding impact
Athletes looking to add loaded conditioning or endurance work
Anyone rehabbing from higher-impact activities like running (with medical clearance)
That said, rucking may not be appropriate for everyone without guidance. If you have existing injuries, joint issues, cardiovascular conditions, or other medical concerns, you should consult your healthcare professional before starting — especially when adding weight.
The key to safe, effective rucking is:
Starting with a light load
Using a well-designed ruck pack that distributes weight comfortably
Progressing slowly and intentionally over time
When done correctly, rucking is one of the most effective ways to build strength, improve cardiovascular health, burn fat, and increase overall resilience — all while simply walking.
As always: start where you are, listen to your body, and progress smartly.
